I’m not sure where I stand on the Kanye issue; the is he or isn’t he Christian conversation. But I have heard valid points on both ends.
It’s not uncommon for what we call “secular” artists to have a change of heart and use their talents to serve God. It’s happened countless times before, so why the controversy with Kanye? Is it because he’s married to Kim? Who’s rise to fame was risqué? Or perhaps because he is causing a bit of confusion, which God is not the author of? Sure he’s on a spiritual journey like many, but his happens to be on worldwide display.
Kanye isn’t new to Jesus. In fact one of his first hits was Jesus Walks. It’s clear that he is reaching for him. But with the backlash from some of God’s children, can he find him? We quote “come as you are”, but then say no, not like that. We tend to judge outwardly when scripture says God looks at the heart.
I don’t know Kanye’s heart, but I know he’s still a soul. Let us love people rather than condemn them. For God “is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9
