Just in time for Valentine’s Day Gospel Unplugged and Shine Ink brought us the “Love Experience” Sunday night on February 12th, at NYC’s Drom. The showcase featured artists and musicians, including CJAI, Chad Chambers, Dave TV In HD, Matt T., Melissa Dawn, Leah Smith, and Poet “Q”. Terrence Charles, CEO and Founder of Gospel Unplugged, along with Shine Ink’s CEO Melissa McHugh teamed up to put together an experience that would translate love in its purest form. Both young adult Christians, McHugh and Charles understands that apart from God one cannot know love.
This powerful word “Love” was explored throughout the night incorporating live music and timeless love songs such as Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love”, Beres Hammond’s “Rockaway”, Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” and Music Souldchilds “Love”. The show intentionally provided an unconventional way of demonstrating love, and most importantly, God’s love.
The night started off with singer CJAI who included a string of Whitney classics in his performance to honor the late legend. Artist Chad Chambers followed with two numbers that conveyed the love of God, stating “We can’t talk about love if we don’t talk about God. God is love.” Soloist Dave TV In HD sang after, who’s effortless singing took us back with Bob Marley’s “Is this Love” and a sweet rendition of “Rockaway” by Beres Hammond. Poet “Q” recited 2 original pieces on love, stating in one of them “We treat love as if it’s an emotion, something you feel but never practice, love is an action…” (You better preach!).” Next up was Matt T. an incredible vocalist who took the atmosphere to a whole new level that night, ministering about the love of God through his outstanding rendition of “Love”, which was so good it demanded an encore! Headliner Melissa Dawn did not disappoint with smooth vocals, singing 3 songs which included Kirk Franklin’s “Love” and her original song “Your Love.” Songstress Leah Smith, also a headliner that night, closed out the show singing four of her songs including her most popular “Beautifully Made.” An expressive performer, Leah engaged the audience with her soulful yet powerful voice and profound lyrics.
The night was one to remember with an explosive band and vocals that were on fire! A job well done and mission accomplished to Gospel Unplugged and Shine Ink teaching us that we can love God and each other the way God intended us to.
