Sharing your faithBy:  Shenelle Wallace  (February 2011)

On numerous occasions I’ve had encounters with someone who at a point and time desired to understand and learn more about Christianity, but decided that maybe, just maybe this religion (for lack of a better word) and the pursuit of a relationship with Jesus Christ was not worth following; because whenever they would have a conversation with Christians, it seems as though the Christian, when faced with certain questions couldn’t answer or got “stuck.” I hope that person isn’t you.

The ability to clearly articulate the message of Jesus Christ is imperative for all who believe in it. I’ve been challenged many times myself by people who are either curious, or just eager to prove me wrong. It was then that I understood the importance of the scripture “…and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you…” 1 Peter 3:15 (KJV). The New International Version (NIV) translation says: “…and if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it…”   In Mark 16:15 we are told to “Go ye into the world and preach the gospel.” But how can we preach a gospel that we are ignorant of? It’s no wonder the word says “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. Ahh yes. A scripture for everything.

Being unable to respond to someone challenging your faith can leave you vulnerable and begs the question of whether or not you are clear on what you profess. Having a solid understanding of what you believe and why you believe it is essential. In all fairness, I know that individuals are on different levels spiritually. But the word of God is available to you, even at the click of a mouse. So dig in and dig deep. The world is waiting to hear.
