“I know I have to do it one day, but I’m trying to work out some of my issues within myself.” That was the response he gave me, an old friend who I was catching up with regarding his salvation. The topic just happened to come up. More often than not, this is the usual reply given as to why one has not yet let Jesus take the wheel, concerning their life. We feel like we are doing God an injustice, coming to Him knowing that we have not yet arrived into the whole person He wants us to be. So we wait…., and wait…, and as the cliché goes, “put off for tomorrow what can be done today.”
Life is difficult enough when we try to navigate through it on our own. The good news is, we don’t have to. Since God is all knowing he knows that in and of ourselves we may never feel like we’re enough to give our lives to him. Believe it or not, he will accept you as you are.
Think about the thief on the cross (Luke 23:39-43). He had a few issues in his life he needed to take care of, but he had no time to fix up. He was on his death bed and asked Jesus to remember him. That’s all it took. Jesus replied: “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” How simple, how easy. It’s not hard, we just think it is. For the thief, his tomorrow was not promised. And neither is ours. The difference is that reality was staring him in the face. For us, we just assume that we have forever.
“Today is the day of Salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2 ). There is no time like the present time to get things done. If you’re waiting to be complete before giving God control of your life, know that completeness only comes through him. He is waiting for you. He’s been waiting for you. Say Yes to Jesus today.
