Well that was quick! It seems like just yesterday the world was preparing for”Y2K” and here we are at the start of a new decade. Typically, most of us are planning our new year and reflecting on the last. But while we’re preparing to make more money, save some money, seek a husband/wife, purchase land, or whatever else might be on the list, I offer the suggestion of focusing on your spirit and relationship with God.
We want so much out of life to the point where it tickles our nerves at the thought of how much “things” we don’t have and how much more we need to do to acquire them. But what we fail to realize is that by seeking God and building a genuine relationship with him out of a pure heart, we automatically draw these things to us. Please don’t misunderstand me; the motive shouldn’t be to seek God to get, but because of a sincere love. However, along with the relationship, comes the blessings. In the Bible, Matthew 6:33 states “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Who is this God that you serve? Do you really know? What has been your experience with him? Do you know what it feels like to be in the presence of God? If yes, continue on! If not, then start this second. There is more to God than you may know, or think. An understanding of Him goes deeper than attending church on Sunday. How do we develop our relationship with God you ask? It’s rather simple. He told us how: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8).
Let’s bring in the New Year with a heart after God and a determination to experience all of him. I’ll leave you with this scripture verse: Delight yourself also in the LORD And He shall give you the desires of your heart Psalms 37:4. Happy New Year to ALL!
